Oasis
In this bustling and densely built urban area of Thessaloniki, the role of scarce public spaces is particularly crucial, and their design is critical. On the one hand, they should serve as many people as possible throughout the day and year, creating flexible and multifunctional spaces that connect residents with elements of nature often lacking in their daily lives.
To achieve this, the square is functionally and aesthetically integrated with the surrounding streets, prioritizing pedestrians. All configurations are designed to allow free access and unobstructed passage for pedestrians and people with disabilities, providing areas for rest, relaxation, and social interaction. Greenery is preserved and enhanced, while natural cooling is achieved through the addition of a central water feature. The choice of flooring material and its installation promote rapid absorption and drainage of rainwater.
At the edges of the square, the taxi stand, parking spaces, and areas designated for outdoor seating are redesigned to continue existing but within controlled limits.
